The Purity of the New Mind

Eph 4:17- 5:21

Ephesians 4:17 17 Therefore, I say this and testify in the Lord: You should no longer live as the Gentiles live, in the futility of their thoughts.

18 They are darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them and because[e] of the hardness of their hearts. 19 They became callous and gave themselves over to promiscuity for the practice of every kind of impurity with a desire for more and more

  • Futility of Thoughts apart from Christ

  • Darkened in understanding
  • Deep Ignorance
  • Hardened hearts
  • Callous
  • Unclean ---
  • Alienated from God…

The Escape

20 But that is not how you came to know Christ, 21 assuming you heard about him and were taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus, 22 to take off[g] your former way of life, the old self that is corrupted by deceitful desires, 23 to be renewed[h] in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on[i] the new self, the one created according to God’s likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth.

Eph. 4:3 –

Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to live worthy of the calling you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

28 Let the thief no longer steal. Instead, he is to do honest work with his own hands, so that he has something to share with anyone in need.

Vs. 24 –

24 and to put on[i] the new self, the one created according to God’s likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth.

Eph. 5:1-2 –

Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children, and walk in love, as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.

Eph4: 31 Let all bitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander be removed from you, along with all malice

Eph. 5:6, Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for God’s wrath is coming on the disobedient[b] because of these things

To whom do we listen?

  • Not yourself ----
  • Luke 9:23-24 ---- “If anyone wants to follow after[d]me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, ….
  • Romans 12:2 – The reason Paul do not be conformed be transformed by renewing your mind…. So that you may discern the will of God.
  • Not Satan ----
  • Revelation 12:9 - So the great dragon was thrown out—the ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the one who deceives the whole world…….
  • Not those around you ---
  • Ephesians 5:6 - Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for God’s wrath is coming on the disobedient[b]because of these things.

5:17 17 So don’t be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

4:17 17 Therefore, I say this and testify in the Lord: You should no longer live as the Gentiles live, in the futility of their thoughts

Eph. 5:19-21 – 19 speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music with your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of Christ…..

This is how we submit….

James 4:7 Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

We Submit…..

Lies we tell ourselves

The sin we enjoy

The Anger that feeds the bitterness we embrace, that produces the foulness of our mouths spoken and thought.

Job 29:14 --- I put on righteousness, and it clothes me.

Psalm 132:9 --- Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And let Your godly ones sing for joy.

1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race,[j][k][l] a royal priesthood,[m] a holy nation,[n] a people for his possession,[o] so that you may proclaim the praises[p][q] of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

24 and to put on[i] the new self, the one created according to God’s likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth.
